While I was looking at the system event log to try to understand what was happening I noticed that the system shutdown request (event id 1074) was being issued by Cobian.Reflector.Application.exe where it had previously been issued by Cobian.Reflector.Service.exe. So I realised that I had somehow changed the backup during the upgrade to run as an app instead of a service and this was the reason that the backup was running under my user id instead of SYSTEM user id.
I changed it back to be run as a service on 10/5/23 but the backup task that ran at 01.00 on 11/5/23 still failed to shut down the system.
The only other thing I did after that was to change the system power setting back not to timeout and sleep when idle. So from the backup at 01.00 on 12/5/23 the task has been running successfully and the system has been shutting down each day like it used to.
So all is well now but I don't understand why it stopped working properly or why it is now resolved.
